Is your pet’s microchip registered?

Microchips are essential for reuniting lost pets with their owners.

It’s as simple as placing a chip the size of a grain of rice under their skin, this can be carried out at any time but is often done at the same time as vaccination or desexing procedures and is quick and easy.

If your animal goes missing, is injured or is taken it’s nice to know they can be identified.  In NZ it is now law that dogs must be microchipped by the age of 3 months and registered with your local council.  Cat microchipping is not compulsory in most regions but we highly recommend it.  Aside from being able to identify your pet, this technology can be used to operate cat doors and catch and release traps so you can keep your pet cat safe.

It’s also important to register your pet’s microchip with the NZ pet register so it is linked to your contact details.  To check that your details are correct go to this website http://www.animalregister.co.nz/ and enter your pet’s microchip number. If you have questions, please call into our clinic and we’re more than happy to help.
